Herrett Center Campin

   Explore Herrett: Science
Camp In

The Herrett Center for Arts and Science is hosting our annual Science Camp-in on March 13th & 14th, 2015 for grades 3rd – 5th . We hope  to encourage children in science by having fun with it.  Campers will experience hands-on workshops taught by professionals and students in their respective fields of chemistry, archaeology, physics, health science, astronomy, and more. See attached registration form  and list of workshop descriptions.
·        Campers will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops for more hands-on fun!
·        Attend a planetarium show in our Digistar 5 full dome theater.
·        Tour the Centennial Observatory for night time sky viewing.
·        Participate in informal educational science activities – giving them opportunities for social connections and to gain team building skills.
Campers will experience their own  “Night in the Museum” at the Herrett Center, under constant adult supervision. It will be a memorable night and an unique experience by spending the entire night in the museum where imaginations come to life!
It is first come, first served…so sign up now to ensure your child’s place for the classes of their choice.
Registration: 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm  Friday, March 13th
Parents will pick up their children 7:30 am - 8:00 am Saturday, March 14th

Goings on in Science

Hearts, blood vessels, backbones, reptiles, predator, consumer, hearing, seeing, desert, amount of water, space, food, senses, butterflies, ladybugs, cycles, habitats, and vertebrates are all things you might hear being talked about around school these next few weeks. Ask 2nd graders about deserts, they should have quite a bit to tell you. You should be able to gather information about reptiles and fish from any 4th grader. First graders will be able to tell you about metamorphesis....just ask them. If you have ever wondered about how many chambers your heart has or about how your body gets oxygen just ask any 5th grader. Curious about what eats what and the energy that flows from plant to you....have a 3rd grader help you out.
