5th grade has been learning about erosion. Take a look.
5th grade has been making land forms out of sand then dripping water onto them to see what happens when water --rain, snow, sleet----hits rock and land formations. Interesting. It's not always what they expect.

A few weeks ago Liz Haugee and her friend Ouch came to Pillar Falls to tell students how to be safe around electrical outlets and electricity. Kinders and 1st graders welcomed them with excited smiles and energetic voices.

For the first quarter all classes are learning about the Scientific Method. Elephant Toothpaste was a big hit as we began learning the steps. Many older students had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen, but they were still only making a hypothesis. As we did the activity I directed the students to think in the terms of observe, question, hypothesis, experiment, analyze results, and communicating with others. Below are a few of our elephant toothpaste creations.

Welcome Back to School!!!!
A lot off change has been going on in our district. I have made as big a one as a lot of our students have. I am at 2 new schools this year. I will be making friends at Pillar Falls and Perrine. I have already seen some familiar faces! I am excited to get things started. I am hoping that this year brings lots of fun and learning to the students. I know it will for me.

What's going on
Wow! It is almost Christmas break! We all have been VERY busy this month. 1st grade is learning about life cycles. 2nd grade is studying matter and putting together a big foldable filled with smaller foldables. One of our 3rd grade classes--Mrs. Standley's--is building and programming robots. The other 3 are learning about resources with a visit from Liz Haugee from ID Power. 3rd grade also had a special visitor from the INL to tell us about nuclear energy. Thank you Mr. Miley. 4th graders are just finishing up plant adaptations and beginning to move into animal adaptations. Can't wait to see if there are any similarities. 5th grade has working on plant and animal cells. Ask them about their jello cells! Kindergarten is learning about our 5 senses.
Make sure and check out the "Happenings" page for pictures of all the fun we have been having!
